China Deploys First Large-Scale Sodium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System

(Datang Hubei Energy) recently announced that its large-scale sodium-ion battery energy storage system has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Technological Innovations in the Energy Industry for 2024 by the National Energy Administration (NEA). A key part of this achievement is the Datang Qianjiang Sodium-Ion Energy Storage Station, which marks a significant milestone in the commercialization of sodium-ion battery technology. Sodium-ion batteries are emerging as a key energy storage technology for next-generation power systems, offering cost advantages, abundant raw materials, and a secure supply chain.
